Danny ignores him.
Tim shakes his head, harder when Danny insists on talking. He struggles up to his feet, even though he feels shaky, and Danny steps closer to him, until he's looming over Tim.
"You don't have any other choices." Danny starts to say, his tone harder now, but Tim waves him off.
[["Don't bullshit me, Danny!"]]Danny's eyes grow visibly tired.
"Why does he matter?" he asks. "The Eye had already had him in its grasp, there is nothing you can do about that. It's too late for him, always was."
Part of Tim is willing to believe Danny's words, that Jon is a lost cause. But he knows he can't give up on him; despite everything that had gone wrong between them, Jon had tried to make amends, and although Tim didn't care about it at the time, it's impossible for him not to care this time.
"If this is really about second chances, there has to be a way for him too," Tim says. "The Eye didn't always have him, you know. There was a time-"
Tim pauses. Indeed, Jon wasn't always doomed. Jon had been doomed ever since -
[[I can save him.]]"You've been through so much, and I would love to let you rest." Danny's voice is a little rough, as if it's been long since he last spoke. It's probably true. "But I don't think you are ready to do that yet." Danny tucks Tim's hair behind his ear, smiling on.
[["What is this place?"]]
"If saving you wasn't possible, you wouldn't be here at all." He stares Danny in the eye, who flinches, but doesn't look away from him. "Be honest, Danny. Don't try to lie to me. How can I save you?"
Danny's nostrils flare as he imitates breathing.
"There is no saving me," Danny says quietly. "If you don't want to save yourself, then your only option is to stay here."
Tim's heart, even though it's not really in his chest anymore, beats faster.
[["With you?"]]The other neighbor's boy, the nasty kid who used to help around the Sims household before Tim convinced Mrs. Sims that he was the better option, has taken the book out of Jon's hands, and is obviously under a trance. Jon has stepped towards him, about to follow, but he stops when Tim calls out to him, and Tim rushes to his side. His hands land on Jon's shoulders, holding onto him.
[["There's nothing we can do for him now,"]]"Try to stop me," Jon responds, taking another step.
Tim bites his lip, remaining silent as Jon closes the distance between himself and the door, slipping out.
Maybe @@.smear;It's too late.@@ Maybe Jon can't be saved. Maybe neither of them can.
//[[Abandon Jon]]//
//[[Follow Jon]]//"Forever and beyond," Tim replies, tightening his own arms around Danny, holding him as close as he can.
It's not going to be a pleasant stay here, Tim knows it, but he also knows that it probably hasn't been that for Danny either. And Tim means everything he thought, because that's the truth of his heart.
He will stay with Danny no matter what.
[[The End]]But it takes some more time for Tim to gain the invitation to her house, for Mrs. Sims to agree to let him help with the chores. That's when he finally meets Jon, who is both everything Tim expected him to be as a kid and so different from the adult Tim remembers.
"What do you actually do?" Jon asks him one day, so properly that Tim can't help but smile.
[["I work for a man called Adelard Dekker"]]Danny huffs in frustration.
"Fine. But you have to be smart about it, do you hear me? Think your every step through and pull back if things start to look bad for you." Danny steps forward, staring at Tim sternly. "This is about your second chance, too. Promise me that you won't waste it."
[["I promise."]]To save Jon-
[[.....]]To save Jon-
[["Oh for the love of- WOULD YOU JUST LISTEN TO ME?!"]]He hugs Danny before Danny gets a chance to protest.
For a brief second, Danny goes stiff, and doesn't try to embrace him back. But he stays there, and he stays solid and real in Tim's arms, and after a while Danny's arms rise up around Tim, clutching him tight.
"Forever?" Danny asks, and this time there is no sadness in his voice, only fear and hope.
[["Forever and beyond."]]"I help him with his projects," Tim says. "He's an adventurer, you know. But his work is very secret and I can't talk about it."
"Oh," Jon says, obviously disappointed, and Tim laughs.
It's all true, though. The first thing he had done upon landing into the past was seek out Dekker, because he was the only person in the world to believe him and who wasn't aligned with the Institute, and he had bet it all on Dekker's willingness to help. The bet had paid off; Tim wouldn't have made it to this point without him. He owes this new chance to Dekker.
With Jon, Tim's preparations are thorough, his plan seems to proceed accordingly. And yet Mr. Spider slips past him, and almost gets Jon.
[["Don't follow him!"]]"It wouldn't have come down to that . You can take care of yourself, Martin." Tim knows that nobody realizes how brave Martin really is, not even him at times, but the least of all Martin himself. He kisses Martin on the top of his head, stroking his hair to comfort him. "But it's all right. I'm here. You aren't alone."
<div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/r2frrkZZ/8.png" alt="description" width="740" height="500" alt="Description of image"></div>
They still need to go to the Institute and have it scoured through and through for worms. But with this, Tim has ensured that not only will Martin be all right. He doesn't have to face any of these nightmares alone.
That's the best case scenario Martin deserves.
[[The End.]]"It's to save you," he says. "The Institute is fucked up, you don't even know how. That's all I can say, I'm sorry."
Sasha frowns. "Are you really saying you're not even going to explain?"
[["Nope."]]Martin doesn't have to be told twice.
He brought seven with him; it takes four to kill Jane Prentiss and all her worms. Tim is sweaty and shaky by the end of it, and when Martin pulls him away from Jane, he doesn't resist.
[["You're all right now"]]Tim shakes his head. "I'm sorry." He can feel tears coming out now, trickling down to his cheeks. "You just have to trust me on this, Sasha. You would have-" He chokes, closing his eyes again. "It's to save you."
When he looks at Sasha again, the anger is still there, but she also looks resigned.
"You've always been my friend," she says. "I believe you have your reasons." She inhales deeply. "You'll resign too?"<div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/1Y7Zx7YL/9.png.png" alt="description" width="900" height="1000" alt="Description of image"></div>
"Oh, absolutely." He hesitates before reaching for her hand. "I'll stay with you. We'll be free together."
Sasha still isn't happy, but she nods, squeezing Tim's hand.
[[The End.]]"And why shouldn't I break the table?" Jon's eyes narrow, the confusion on his face turning into hostility. "What aren't you telling me, Tim?"
Jon is holding an ax in his hands, gripping it tight as it pulls it closer to his body, as if to protect himself. Tim wants to laugh at the absurdity of that, of Jon being scared of //him// and he does, throwing his head back to really get it all out, to make sure Jon knows how ridiculous Tim thinks he is.
He was right all along, wasn't he? All it takes for Tim is one misstep and he's on Jon's bad side again, despite Jon knowing the truth now, despite the fact Tim is trying to help.

"No," Jon whimpers, but he doesn't struggle in the end, turning towards Tim to press his face against him.
//[[Hug Jon close.]]//There is silence, and yet Tim almost doesn't hear Danny speaking; he stares at the eyes around him, his knees buckling at the sheer weight of their combined gaze, his body trembling as that gaze sears him and strips him to the bone, exposing all there is to him.
It's the Beholding, the thing that has ruined Jon's life, that has ruined Tim. Tim wants to scream at it to go to hell, but all he can feel is fear.
"Tim, there is no saving this man," Danny says, and this time Tim hears him clearly, finding Danny's eyes among all that are looking at him. Unlike every other pair of eyes that stares at him in hunger, Danny's eyes are sad.
"It's too late. He's done for here. He has been for decades. and there is nothing you can do about it. Come back and think it through again."

[[Wait... what about Jon?]]
"I'm not sure. A limbo, some stop between life and death. And this is where you can make a choice." Danny pulls his hand away, his smile fading away. "You can't save the world, Tim. That's beyond you. But you can fix your own life."
Tim's throat feels so tight he can barely speak.
[["What do you mean?"]]Danny sighs. "With me."
His brother looks sad and disappointed, but Tim knows what his choice will be. There is no way he is ever abandoning Danny, not now that he has finally found him again.
He is sure there is some kind of a catch to this, some kind of a hidden condition, but right now he doesn't care. There was never any other option for him.
"In that case," Tim says.
[["I will stay."]]Tim drops the last extinguisher on the ground. "You're safe, Martin. She won't be hurting us anymore. <span class="glitchy" data-text="I">I</span>-"
He falls silent when Martin flings himself into his arms.
He doesn't know what to say, but he knows what to do: he wraps his arms instantly around Martin, hugging him tight as Martin starts to fall apart in his arms, sobbing quietly as he presses his head against Tim's shoulder.
"I thought I was going to die," Martin babbles."I thought she was going to grab me and drag me back down there, and that was going to be that."
[["It wouldn't have come down to that ."]]
He wakes up strapped down to a table, so tight he can't move a muscle. Not that it matters; he's drowsy, his brain seems to be full of mist, and he has to fight to hold it together, to focus enough to talk.
//"How?"// he snarls at Elias, who is out of his sight, but who he knows to be there.
Slow, patient footsteps approach the table.

The black nothing around him is frightening, and the cold stone floor beneath him is no comfort. But what makes Tim's heart beat fast, so fast he thinks it might break into a run, is the sight of the man kneeling by his side, looking like he did before that awful day.
His little brother smiles at him.
[["Danny?"]]No. No matter how much Jon frustrates him, Tim has to put an effort into this. With a weary sigh, Tim hurries to the doorway too, knowing where to follow Jon.

— Moss and Any"Maybe it's for the protection of everyone." That's partially true, even; Tim can't destroy the Institute, much less save the world, but he can try to shield the people he has in his life from maximum harm. If only Jon wasn't being so stubborn about it. "I'm just trying to help, Jon! Can't you just take my fucking word?"
He is stepping forward without thinking about it, and Jon instantly takes a step back. They both freeze, staring at each other with their mouths open.
Then Jon, holding his ax close, steps towards the doorway.
[["Don't!"]]Tim laughs until there are tears in his eyes, and only then does he look at Jon again, who looks fully alarmed now, his ax slightly raised, even.
"Tim, what the hell is wrong with <span class="glitchy" data-text="𓁺">you?</span>" Jon asks, voice tight with anger and fear both.
And it's hearing that which drains all the amusement out of Tim's body. His smile drops, and he can feel his own anger raising its ugly head again. He tries to rein it in; this is not the time. He is here to fix things, not ruin them.
//[[Ask him to trust you.]]//
For one long second Danny stares at him blankly. Then, as if rehearsing a line, his brother repeats his earlier choices.

As Tim falls silent, he can see that Danny is reaching the same conclusion that he did. But Danny's face hardens anyway.
"This isn't going to be easy," Danny says. "Nothing is ever easy with Jon Sims. You know it."
[["I know, but let me try."]]No mercy; he remembers well that she had none for him, either. He closes his heart from her cries and presses on.
She tries to attack him, he evades her; he keeps an eye on her worms, stomping and spraying everything he sees but never once losing his focus on Prentiss, knowing he doesn't afford to lose his advantage. He has emptied the first fire extinguisher on her and is in the middle of using the second when she goes down on the ground, and that's when he hears a voice from behind him:
"Tim! What do you need?"
Tim's first instinct is to snap at Martin for not having run when he gave him the opportunity to do so, but unfortunately it's also good that Martin did stick around.
[["Keep handing me those fire extinguishers!"]]But Tim can barely hear what she's saying. What he's thinking about are her earlier words: //He told me I'm fired.//
Tim actually did it; just the day before, he told Rosie about all the times Sasha has dipped into the confidential files of the Institute employees, and Rosie has apparently made sure to deliver the information onward to Elias.
It was a long shot, the only one Tim had. He repeats Sasha's words in his mind, his heartbeat going faster with every round they make in his head. She's fired. She doesn't have to stay.
//[[She doesn't have to stay.]]//Danny breathes a sigh of relief.

Sasha's anger doesn't fade, but it dilutes at the sight of his tears. "What the fuck, Tim?"
Tim doesn't reply; he closes his eyes and mouth both, trying to keep the wail that is rising from the depths of his chest inside. When he arrived here, he didn't even recognize Sasha as she was, the memory of her ruined in his brain. But now, he has made sure that she won't be lost. Congratulations! You’ve reached the secret ending.
This was the very idea that sparked the rest of the game.
We’ve been slowly working on this game for a long time, and while life has pulled us away and time hasn’t always been kind, we’re so glad to finally share our little love letter to one of our favorite TMA characters—Tim Stoker.
We adore the Stoker brothers so very much, and we’re incredibly grateful we got to create something just for them (and hey—one with a good ending (ish), for once!). Thank you so much for playing and spending time in this little world of ours.
With love,

-- Moss and AnyIt's a beautiful day in the Institute garden: perfect for a stroll, perfect for the ending of the most beautiful friendship in Tim's life. Sasha's voice shakes, brimming with barely contained rage, and Tim almost doesn't want to look her in the eye. But he does, knowing that he owes her this.
"I was called into Elias's office this morning," Sasha grits from between her teeth. She steps into Tim's space, jabbing her finger at his face. "He told me I'm fired, Tim!"
